What Size Trout Can You Realistically Expect To Catch?

The most common is 1/2 pound up to 2 1/2 or 3 pounds but you never know what size fish that is going to hit your bait until you set the hook. That is why it is called fishing and not catching.

The White River below Bull Shoals Dam contains one of the world's most famous trout fisheries. Along with its tributaries, it is considered the best fishery for trophy brown trout in the world. Four to ten-pound brown trout are fairly common. The current world record for fly fishing with 4-pound test line came from the White as does (tie) the all-tackle catch-and-release, and five line class catch-and-release records.

The average size of rainbow trout has been going up in recent years. Many of the stockers are 12 inch average fish produced by the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission Mammoth Spring Hatchery and the Bull Shoals Lake Pot Shoals net pen facility, rather than just the 9 inch average fish previously stocked.
